At border controls, the photo is compared to the document holder, sometimes using special software.
This automated comparison between the image and the person is only possible if the image meets certain criteria.

1. Do it yourself - 90% chance of being refused as you need to know all the terms/requirements.
2. Do it with a photo booth 50% chance of being refused if you do not apply the requirements correctly, or the printing may be too dark, or too light, or the ink colors may be printed washed out.
  For this reason, you have to pay twice, once for the photo booth, once for the photographer.
3. Do it with a professional photographer, where all the responsibility lies with the photographer and you have no chance of being refused and paying twice.
